INSPIRE
Interventions with Seropositive Injectors Research and Evaluation
Project INSPIRE (Interventions for Sero Posititve IDUs-Research and Evaluation) is a 5 year collaborative project to develop intervention strategies to address the primary and secondary prevention needs of HIV-seropositive injection drug users (IDUs). This research is intended to develop, implement and evaluate strategies to:
- Prevent HIV transmission due to high risk sexual and drug injection behaviors.
- Increase access to, utilization of and maintenance of primary health care.
- Increase access to, utilization of and adherence to HIV primary care and treament.
A randomized intervention trial tested the effectiveness of a 10 session peer mentor intervention. The intervention combined individual and group sessions.
