Project SHARE

Sharing HIV/AIDS Research Efforts

Project Project SHARE (Sharing HIV/AIDS Research Efforts) is a collaborative effort between the Miami-Dade County Health Department, Office of HIV/AIDS (M-DCHD) and the University of Miami Drug Abuse and AIDS Research Center (DAARC). The primary goal of the seminar series is to disseminate theory-based HIV prevention intervention strategies that scientific studies have shown to be effective to the South Florida HIV/AIDS service provider community. A secondary goal of the seminar series is to provide the opportunity for researchers to share their findings, hear the concerns of community providers, and to identify new areas for future research. The project hosts six seminars annually with up to 150 attendees from South Florida (Monroe, Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach Counties). The seminars are videoteped and distributed to interested parties throughout the state.

The series of free seminars began in April 2002. National HIV/AIDS experts facilitate the two-hour long seminars and lunch is served. Local researchers with backgrounds in HIV prevention and/or behavioral science also speak at the seminars.  Additionally, a community panel consisting of representatives from local Community Based Organizations (CBOs) and AIDS Service Organizations (ASOs) across South Florida responds to the presentations and discusses how interventions can be adopted in the community.

Community needs and enthusiasm have lead Project SHARE one step further. We now include two-day long intensive workshops to provide further training and technical assistance on the interventions presented in previous seminars. The first workshop was held in December 2002. Future plans involve providing technical assistance workshops for all interventions presented at the seminars.
